NKI Center for Early Cancer Detection
Welcome to the forefront of early cancer diagnostics
The NKI Center for Early Cancer Detection is an initiative of the Netherlands Cancer Institute, the internationally renowned cancer research institute and hospital in Amsterdam.
With the initiative of the NKI Center for Early Cancer Detection, the NKI is shifting gears to take the lead and speed up innovations in the field of early cancer detection.
We believe that early detection is paramount in improving cancer survival in the next decade. This will result in reduced burden on healthcare, lower costs, and for the patient, better survival rates and higher quality of life.

Our mission
The mission of the NKI Center for Early Cancer Detection is to shift the detection of cancer from late stage to earlier stages by pushing development and implementation of innovations in early cancer diagnostics and making them expeditiously available to the Dutch health care system.
Our strategy
To detect cancer earlier we focus on two main objectives:
1. Bringing new techniques for early cancer detection to consumers and general practitioners, so tests become highly accessible for the population.
We encourage and facilitate the development of cancer tests to maturity and help implement them into the Dutch healthcare system.
2. Identifying high risk groups in the population so cancer screening and follow-up diagnostics can be highly effective.
Several research groups at the NKI are dedicated to discovering biomarkers and new screening methods for cancer detection at an early stage.
